35 Years Later: What Do You Remember From the Blizzard of ’78?

Thirty five years ago this week, the historic nor'easter known as the "Blizzard of '78" walloped the state of Massachusetts along with much of the Northeast.
While the blizzard actually formed on Sunday, Feb. 5, 1978, most of the snowfall occurred between Feb. 6 and Feb. 7 of that year.
Boston received 27.1 inches of snow, while Providence, Rhode Island received 27.6 inches.
About 100 people were killed in the Northeast from the storm, while around 4,500 were injured. Moreover, the blizzard caused more than $520 million in damage.

Seeing only the antenna of my Volkswagen Beetle sticking out of the snow, and wondering where to start to free it... but I was a much younger pup then and the blizzard was just an excuse to have fun.

very limited passage of streets in Mansfield and Dick Staples using a old D8 Cat Dozer to clear West St from center of town to where Fernandes used to be on Copeland Drive,using a borrowed snow machine to answer calls with Police Dept.

I remember they had us go to school and wound up letting us out at 11am...then didn't see school again for 3 weeks....I remember the 25 foot high snow pile up in the square in front of Bay bank......and I remember..shoveling...and shoveling...and shoveling............

I remember the bus driver struggling to drive on snow covered roads. Everyone was quiet while he tried a few times to make it up a hill then cheered when he made it. Then it was home to help shovel and make epic snow forts.

I was 19 and living at home in Randolph and I remember by BF being snowed in at Mom & Dad's while they went to a hotel in Braintree! It was a great week!

I remember leaving my home a little before 11:00 AM to pick up my children and a few others did not get to the daycare where most went until almost 2;00. did not get back to my home until after 3:00. still have a few newspapers about the storm

Walked home out West Street in the snow up to my hips in places; couldn't get my car out of the commuter rail parking lot. Even if I had, there was really no place to drive it by the time I got home from Boston. Photos have been added from the first sunny day after the snow stopped...was it Wednesday?
